If you feel angry and resentful a lot of the time it could very well be because you are doing things that you really don’t want to do. If you often give in to keep the peace, but silently feel resentful, it is important to understand when giving in works and when it doesn’t.
- If you are keeping score, you can never relax in the relationship.
- Keeping score makes you ugly - to yourself!
- Keeping score is exhausting.
- Joy exists only in the moment. If you want to be somewhere other than where you are, you will never feel good.
- Compromises are about Chinese or Italian, not about matters of the heart.
- Do not compromise with your spirit.
- Say how you feel in a non-confrontational way. Nothing horrible will happen.
- Can you say how you feel without making one person wrong and one person right?
- Is it okay to not agree?
- Is it okay to be different people?
- Resentment shuts you down and isolates you from your partner.
- Do you feel connected? What is keeping you from that connection?
- Resentment is always about you and you not being honest with yourself.
- Resentment means you do things you do not want to do because you hope in doing them that you will be loved.
- It is okay to have different interests, not agree, and do things separately.
- If you cannot answer “yes” to this, your relationship will not be very joyful.
