Learn how to create the job you love and get paid well for what you love to do.
Ask yourself the following questions:
- Is this really what you love to do? If you could do something else, would you? Do you like getting up in the morning and going to work?
- Hey – Is there anything better than doing what you love to do and getting paid for it? Don’t these people know you would do it for free? Do you remember the time you worked and didn’t like what you did – how painful that was.
- Do you like and respect the company you are working for and the people you are working with?
- You have to really like whom you work with. You also have to have respect for the company and the people who run it. The mutual respect is what makes the environment nourishing.
- Are you really good at what you do? What feedback have you gotten, from annual reviews, superiors?
- Be honest with yourself about your skills and accomplishments.
- Do you have a realistic grasp on your financial requirements? What are others in your field being paid? Are you comparing apples to apples?
- Do your homework. Know what is out there. How can you make a good decision unless you know what is available? Is this a good move for you? Don’t make a lateral move financially unless you make up for it in many important ways. Ask about the opportunities for movement within the organization.
- Is there a real possibility, at some point, that you could make what you are worth? If no, start looking for another job. If yes, do you have the patience to build your reputation and resume?
- Nothing happens quickly. Decide if the right components are at this job and then start to slowly build and grow. Everything takes time and if you are consistent and passionate about what you do, you will for sure get paid what you are worth.
